Career record, head to head: Zapgaze leads, 1-0

Former UBC Captain ItzBolt has led the fledgling collegiate team to two back to back CSL championships. His last major appearance was at Dreamhack Atlanta. ItzBolt has attended 10 events this year and made playoffs in 5 of them. Of those playoff appearances, he never finished lower than semis. While ItzBolt attended many events in the first half of the year, he has significantly slowed down with a first place finish at the Moose Cup qualifier. Is there any gas left in the tank or will ItzBolt be looking for a name change to ItzBolted?

Coming off a fresh tournament win at Elements Esports, Zapgaze has some serious momentum going into the tournament. He has the highest average points earned per tournament attended (3.8). Entering the VanHearth scene and winning the first UBC Tavern Hero during the spring season, he has gradually snuck in with playoff appearances at UBC Tavern Hero #3 (Top 4) and Vancouver Battle Royale (Top 8). His most notable accomplishment this year was a Magic: the Gathering, GP Las Vegas win. Zapgaze brings an overall wealth of experience as a player who is no stranger to card games. Will Zapgaze be able to add a VanHearth 2017 title to his collection?

Why ItzBolt wins: Renowned for tournament preparation, if ItzBolt can correctly call what his opponents are bringing, he just might be able feast on favourable matchups.

Why Zapgaze wins: Calm demeanor and grace under pressure will allow him to navigate against any threats ItzBolt throws his way.

How does it feel to make the VanHearth invitational, the most prestigious invitational in BC?

I am very excited to play in the tournament especially since it has a good pool of players from the area. I still have not played Fwan or seohyun628 in a tournament, but it looks like I will only get to play them if they make it out of groups.

What is your strategy going into the Invitational?

Strategy going in is hard to say as it will be including new cards from the Kobolds expansion. However, I feel like I am one of the better players in the region in regards to keeping calm and not getting nervous in high pressure situations.

How do you feel about your group and who do you think is the biggest threat?

I think I got a pretty good group, TheJordude definitely low rolled his opponents even though he is first seed. I think I have pretty good chances of making it out of groups. I'll say RealTerror, and give him the benefit of the doubt he doesn't tilt and misplay the day of the tournament.

What are your thoughts on your matchup against Zapgaze?

I think Zapgaze is a good player, but it will depend on how much Hearthstone he plays before the tournament to learn the matchups.

How does it feel to make the VanHearth invitational, the most prestigious invitational in BC?

It is truly an honor, and makes me feel like a real part of this community

What is your strategy going into the Invitational?

I'm going to not practice, probably copy KGo's lineup 12 hours before the event, and then make a few last minute changes.

How do you feel about your group and who do you think is the biggest threat?

I think my group is the softer of the two, but both RealTerror and ItzBolt can show up and get things done on a good day.

What are your thoughts on your matchup against ItzBolt?

I think I'll be overall favored. A part-time Hearthstone player is still better than a former Hearthstone player
