Road to Spring Preliminaries

POSTED BY Matticus May 19, 2016

The clock is slowly ticking down towards the Spring preliminaries. Vancouver players who have qualified for either the preliminaries or for the Tavern Hero event will be heading down to Seattle on Friday. Today we take a look at the roster representing Canada’s best of the west.

Tavern Hero starts on Friday where both RealTerror and KingofKimchi will need to make the top 32 in order to advance to the preliminaries on Saturday. Spring Preliminaries start Saturday morning and will be a double elimination format which will conclude Sunday where the Americas winner will be declared. 7 Vancouver players will be representing the city and their teams as they all look for the elusive seat into Worlds at BlizzCon in November.

The players

This is the lineup of players heading down to Seattle for the long weekend.

ApxVoid

Arguably, one of the best players coming out of Vancouver, APXvoid is a part of Team Hearthlytics and has consistently finished every season high up on the ladder. He’ll be one of the favourites going in and is expected to make a deep run into the tournament.

Notable results: 1st place, Copa América 2016 Season 2.
Classes: Mage, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior

ItzBolt

Fresh off leading UBC to a win at the CSL finals in Dreamhack Austin, ItzBolt’s expectations will be to go far into the preliminary stage. Anything short of day 2 on Sunday will be a disappointment.

Notable results: 1st place, CSL Hearthstone Season 2 (UBC).
Classes: Mage, Priest, Warlock, Warrior
Twitter: @ItzBoltHS

TheJordude

Complexity’s TheJordude recently competed at the PAX East ONOG Tournament in Boston where he ended up in the Top 32. TheJordude has a tendency of doing better in tournaments where the longer it goes, the better he performs (usually).

Notable results: Finalist, Tespa West Collegiate Colosseum. Top 32, ONOG PAX East Major.
Classes: Mage, Paladin, Rogue, Warlock

AllanDang

Widely considered by many of the local players here as one of the best (if not the best) in the city, this will be AllanDang’s third trip to the qualifiers with his first being in 2015 and his second for the winter 2016 preliminaries.

Notable results: Finalist, VFL Spring Tavern Hero 2.
Classes: Paladin, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior

Kraxximus

He can be described with just one word: Consistency. He has made the playoffs in the last three Tavern Heroes and won the first of 2016. The only way he loses if he doesn’t show up because of sleeping in.

Notable results: 1st place, Player’s Wanted Tavern Hero.
Classes: Paladin, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior

RealTerror

Part of the team that represented UBC in CSL’s Dreamhack Austin win, RealTerror has placed well in recent firesides but has a habit of losing to giraffes. By that logic, a Zoo might be enough to dash his day 2 hopes. He will need to secure a top placing in the Friday Tavern Hero championship in order to advance to Saturday.

Notable results: 1st place, CSL Hearthstone Season 2 (UBC). 1st place, VFL Tavern Hero.
Classes: Paladin, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior

KingOfKimchi

Like ItzBolt and RealTerror, KingOfKimchi represented UBC at Dreamhack Austin. He is determined to Avenge his round 1 loss at the Dreamhack finals with a strong showing. He will have to run through the gauntlet of a Friday Tavern Hero championship in order to make it to day 2.

Notable results: 1st place, CSL Hearthstone Season 2 (UBC). 1st place, VFL Tavern Hero 2.
Classes: Paladin, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior

Best of luck to all the players participating!
